HAUT Italia · For Ferrari owners

Paint protection film can take Ferrari paint off with it.

It happens on removal, on clear-coated carbon parts, sharp edges and resprayed panels, where the clear coat is weakest. HAUT Italia is a clear film we developed for Ferraris. Once cured, its adhesive grips at less than half the average of leading films, and only shops we certify install it.

The removal problem

Where film takes paint with it

Film comes off clean only while the paint holds on harder than the adhesive does. On a Ferrari, four things can tip that the wrong way.

Adhesive that keeps gripping

Leading films grip at about 7 N/cm once they cure, and heat makes adhesive grip harder. Years of sun and engine heat do that on the car.

Carbon fiber and composite parts

Carbon and composite parts are finished separately from the aluminum body, and clear over carbon weave can bond less strongly than clear over metal. Splitters, diffusers, mirror caps and sills are where it shows.

Panels that have been resprayed

A repaint does not bond like factory paint, and a gauge finds it: a repainted panel reads well above the 150–200 µm of factory paint. The panel that already had work is the one most likely to lift.

Thin clear on sharp edges

Paint draws back from a sharp edge as it cures, so clear coat runs thinnest on the knife edges of vents, splitters and arches. That is where film is wrapped, and where removal starts.

When clear coat lifts, the only fix is paint, and the next buyer's paint gauge will find it.

Peel adhesion, in numbers

3.0 N/cm, and why it matters

Peel adhesion is the force needed to pull film off a panel at 180°, per centimeter of width. It is the one number on a data sheet where more is not better: too low and an edge lifts, too high and removal fights the clear coat.

Original paint is part of what a Ferrari is worth, and a paint-depth reading shows a repaint.

Why removal matters as much as protection

Ferrari paint, by the gauge

What original paint reads

Ferrari body paint is not thin. The risk on removal is how well each layer is bonded, not how many microns there are — which is why a gauge reading on install day is worth keeping.

Sources: published gauge readings, a factory measurement in Maranello and dealer measurements. Most Ferrari bodies are aluminum, so a gauge needs a non-ferrous mode; carbon and composite parts need an ultrasonic gauge.

HAUT Italia

A low-adhesion film, made to be removed

Most clear film is built for maximum hold on a daily driver. We developed HAUT Italia over years of installing and removing film on Ferraris in our own bay in Hackensack, NJ.

3.0 N/cm cured, 3.0–3.2 after a week of heat

2.1–2.4 N/cm when it goes on, 3.0 N/cm cured and 3.0–3.2 N/cm after a week at 70 °C (158 °F). Cured, that is less than half the average of leading films, and a week of heat barely moves it.

Protection on the road

Built on the self-healing clear film of the HAUT range. It takes the rock chips, bug etching and wash marks the paint would otherwise take.

Registered to the car

10-year limited warranty against cracking, delamination, blistering and premature yellowing, registered to the VIN by the installing shop.

10 years. If the film fails, the warranty pays for new film. Your shop registers it the day the car is done.

Removal

How the film comes off without lifting paint

Heat, a low angle and a remover — by a certified installer, in this order.

  1. 01

    Before the film goes on

Paint readings on every panel — a non-ferrous gauge on aluminum, an ultrasonic gauge on carbon and composite. Keep them.

  2. 02

    Warm and slow

The film is warmed evenly and pulled back on itself at a low angle, at a steady pace. Too much heat or a fast pull is how clear coat gets lifted.

  3. 03

    Remover and a microfiber towel

Adhesive left on the paint is softened with the HAUT remover made for this film and wiped off with a microfiber towel. A razor blade never touches the clear coat.

  4. 04

    Read the paint again

Measure the same spots and compare them with the install-day readings. Matching numbers mean no clear coat came off with the film.

The HAUT remover. HAUT makes an adhesive remover for HAUT Italia, and certified shops use it on every removal. It is sold to shops only.

Certified shops only

Installed only by HAUT-certified shops

HAUT Italia is never sold to car owners, and only to shops we have certified.

No margin at the edges

At 3.0 N/cm, every edge and recess has to be wrapped without stretch, post-heated and sealed, or it lifts. That takes experience.

Certified in person

We certify a shop at the shop, on its own bay, with its own installers. Not online, not from a video.

No certified shop near you

Then we send a HAUT installer to do the car. You cover the travel; the job, the place and the date are agreed before anyone sets off.

Start with the installer map. If there is no HAUT shop within reach, contact us or call (551) 800-2858.
